International Arctic Seminar Series

The International Arctic Seminar Series is a collaborative initiative by the University of Lapland, UiT - The Arctic University of Norway, and Umeå University and offers an in-depth introduction to Arctic research.

Each month, we host a seminar on a Thursday, featuring an expert in Arctic research who shares their knowledge and insights. These seminars are open to the public, and we encourage you to sign up and join us online.

Special Invitation for Doctoral Candidates

As a doctoral candidate, you have the unique opportunity to engage in group discussions and complete examination tasks to earn credits. This is an excellent platform to connect with fellow doctoral candidates from diverse fields, contribute to discussions, lead breakout sessions, and gain valuable experience.

Admission Criteria:  We offer priority admission to doctoral students from the Arctic Six universities. See university specific admission criteria for access to PhD courses.

How to Sign Up

Doctoral students: Choose one university to apply with:  

UiT The Arctic University of Norway

Doctoral students can choose to apply with UiT The Arctic University of Norway to take part in SVF-8602 Changing Arctic Seminar, one semester oral exam 2ECTS Deadline for applications: 1.09.

Seminars run every 14 days first seminar 27.08.2026.

University of Lapland

Doctoral students can choose to apply with the University of Lapland for the course TEMA1001V25 Introduction to Arctic research, 5 ECTS, two semesters, written home exam, 5 ECTS. Application period: August to September 1.

Umeå University

Doctoral students can choose to apply with Umeå University for the course Perspectives on Sustainability in Arctic Research I, 5 ECTS Perspectives on Sustainability in Arctic Research I, 5 ECTS, two semesters, written home exam, Deadline for application: September 1
