Open Seminar: Feminist methodologies and AI

This workshop on feminist methodologies and AI followed  is part of Gender Awareness Week

In this workshop, you will first be presented with two real research cases presented by Antigone Heraklidou and Ana Luisa Sanchez Laws. Afer that, you will discuss these cases in groups and relate them to AI. We will conclude with a joint discussion.

Case 1: Women’s Perceptions of Women’s Roles in Peace and Conflict: The Cyprus Case” (Antigone Heraklidou)

Antigone will introduce this research project, in which she explores how women understand and interpret their own roles in contexts of peacebuilding and conflict. The talk will briefly outline the project’s central research aims and offer insight into the questions that guide this work.

Special attention will be given to the methodological approach. Antigone will reflect on her use of focus groups—how they were organized, what dynamics emerged, and the methodological challenges encountered. She will also discuss her decision to complement this approach with oral history interviews, explaining how this method opened space for deeper, more personal narratives among a different group of participants.

Case 2: Ana Luisa Sanchez Laws

Our systematic review of AI for Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy (Bergsnev & Sanchez Laws, in press, Translational Psychiatry) found little involvement of patients and clinicians in current technological developments for better telemental health (virtual reality) automation and personalisation solutions for fear and anxiety disorders. Moving forward, how can we implement intersectional perspectives in this field of research (e.g., future technology development, clinical trials, etc), to advance a more inclusive agenda for mental health?
