Research ethics
The process when standards of research ethics may have been breached
UiT has guidelines for handling cases concerning possible breaches of recognised research ethics norms. Suspected scientific misconduct or other serious breaches of research ethics norms are handled in accordance with the Research Ethics Act.
As a general rule, the matter shall be handled and followed up by the unit (faculty or equivalent) where the person concerned is employed or enrolled as a student. If the unit is unable to handle the matter, for example due to a conflict of interest, it shall be handled by the University Director. In cases involving several faculties, the faculties may request that the matter be handled by the University Director.
UiT’s Research Ethics Committee may provide advisory statements in cases where there is doubt as to whether research ethics norms have been breached. The academic head of the unit and/or the parties to the case may request that the matter be submitted to the committee.
See the guidelines on handling research ethics matters for further information about the procedures for handling such cases.
