Debattmøte om grensene for ytringsfrihet / Debate meeting about the limits of free speech
NORWEGIAN:
"Kanselleringskultur" er et omstridt begrep i vår samtid. Gjenspeiler det at vi har fått en mer polarisert debattkultur enn tidligere? I hvilken grad gjøres det forsøk på å begrense ytringsfriheten til aktører i samfunnsdebatten?
ENGLISH:
"Cancel culture" is a contentious term in our time. Does it reflect that we have a more polarized debate culture than before? To what extent are there attempts to limit the freedom of speech of participants in the public debate?
NORWEGIAN:
Internasjonalt Seminar er et informasjons- og debattforum i Tromsø, som gjennom foredrag og paneldiskusjoner tar opp nord/sør-problematikk, miljø/klima, fattigdom/utvikling og krig/fred som sentrale tema.
Torsdag 18. april kl. 19.00-21.00, på Tromsø bibliotek holdes det et nytt møte i Internasjonalt Seminar.
Tema for møtet er "Kanselleringskultur". Dette er et av de mest omstridte begrepene i vår samtidskultur og i den politiske debatten.
Noen ser kanselleringskultur som en overdreven form for politisk korrekthet som gjør at vi ikke tør debattere åpent og si det vi mener.
Andre mener at å stenge noen ytringer ute er en riktig reaksjon på f.eks sexisme, rasisme og antisemittisme.

Seminaret arrangeres i nært samarbeid med forskningsgruppen FemPhil ved UiT, Norges Arktiske Universitet.
Internasjonalt seminar har et program med 25-30 åpne møter i året.
Seminaret støttes av Tromsø kommune og koordineres av FN-sambandet Nord og Seksjon for internasjonalt samarbeid (SIS) ved UiT Norges arktiske universitet.
I tillegg støttes seminaret av Tromsøs humanitære organisasjoner, solidaritets- organisasjoner og studentorganisasjoner.
ENGLISH:
The International Seminar is a forum for political debate in Tromsø, that addresses issues of the North/South divide, environment/climate, poverty/development, and war/peace as central themes through lectures and panel discussions.
On Thursday, 18 April, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, at the Tromsø Library, a new meeting of the International Seminar will be held.
The topic for the meeting is "Cancel Culture". This is one of the most controversial concepts in contemporary culture and in political debate. Some see cancel culture as an exaggerated form of political correctness that makes us afraid to debate openly and say what we think. Others believe that excluding certain expressions is an appropriate reaction to, for example, sexism, racism, and anti-Semitism.

The seminar is organized in close collaboration with the research group FemPhil at UiT, The Arctic University of Norway.
The International Seminar has a program with 25-30 open meetings per year.
The Seminar is supported by the Tromsø municipality and is coordinated by the UN Association North and the Section for International Cooperation (SIS) at UiT The Arctic University of Norway.
In addition, the seminar is supported by Tromsø's humanitarian organizations, solidarity organizations, and student organizations.
