STUDENT DEPOSIT ACCOUNT

Incoming exchange students from outside the EU / EEA area may transfer their money to the deposit account at The Arctic Student Welfare Organization of Norway (samskipnaden) for visa purposes.

The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) requires from students from countries outside the EU /EEA area to have enough money to live on during the period of their exchange in Norway.

  • NOK 151 690 for 2 semesters (for both the autumn & spring semesters - 1 academic year).
  • NOK 68 950 for only the autumn semester 2024 (1 semester)
  • NOK 82 740 for only the spring semester 2025 (1 semester).

Guidelines & conditions

  • Only students who are formally accepted / admitted to UiT The Arctic University of Norway, can use the student deposit account to transfer their money.
  • The student should be transferred in the student's name (it should be exactly as it appears in the student's passport).
  • There is no interest on the deposited money.
  • Fees / Commission maybe deducted from the transferred money by the bank in the student's home country. The student should check this with their bank to enure that they have transferred the exact amount required by UDI.

Depending on the banking transfer system in your country, the transfer of your money might take a few days to weeks to reach Norway. Be always in contact with your bank!

Once your money has arrived in Norway, the Arctic Student Welfare Organization of Norway will issue a confimation of deposit, which will be forwarded to you by email.

You should submit your confirmation along with your supporting documents in your application for student visa.

  • BRING CASH WITH YOU! Make sure to exchange your foreign currencies to Norwegian Kroner at Oslo Gardemoen Airport during your transit (DON'T bring Euros and US Dollars to your final destination/city because it is very hard to find a place to exchange these currencies). You will need Norwegian money to pay for your taxi and buy food for a few days until you have accessed your deposit.
  • BRING CREDIT / DEBIT CARDS! We advice you to bring with you your credit card/debit card  and check with your bank if the cardsa are valid  in Norway. You can use your banking cards to withdraw money from the ATM machines at the airport.

ACCESSING YOUR MONEY AFTER ARRIVAL

To access your money in the deposit account after your arrival in Norway:

  • CASH CARD: You can order a Danske Bank Prepaid Card from The Arctic Student Welfare Organization of Norway to withdraw money from your deposit. The issuing of a Prepaid Card costs NOK 200, which is a one-time fee. It can be used (at no cost) in any store, at ATMs machines and terminals labelled Bank Axept. The Arctic Student Welfare Organization of Norway does not take cash or cheques. More information about the cash card will be provided during the orientation programme.
  • For inquiries about the cash card, send an email to prepaid.card@samskipnaden.no or visit the nearest office of the Arctic Student Welfare Organization of Norway (samskipnaden) on your campus.

In case the student, for any reason, is not able to start the studies in UiT. Please be aware that the final sum returned to you may vary as a result of changes in the exchange rates before or during transfer OR fees charges by foreign banks (your bank).  A service fee of NOK 350 will be charged for the return of your deposit.

Russian/American/Canadian and other accounts without IBAN:

  1. Name and address of beneficial bank
  2. Your name and address of account holder
  3. account number

  5. ROUTE number (only for American/Canadian transferring)
  6. Inform us either EURO, US dollars or Canadian dollar (Rubles not accepted)
