The University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) is not an accredited institution, and as such exchange students from universities that have a formal agreement with UiT The Arctic University of Norway, can apply to UNIS for courses and research and be registered as a student at UiT after being accepted by UNIS.

How to apply for exchange at UNIS?

Applying for semester exchange at UNIS consists of THREE steps:

  1. Apply directly to UNIS: UNIS - The university centre in Svalbard
  2. Get your university to nominate you to UiT: For Partner Institutions: Online Nomination Procedures for Exchange Students | UiT
  3. After the nomination by your university, you will receive an email from UiT to log in the Application Web (Søknadsweb) to upload ONLY your (1) passport and (2) transcript of records.

What happens next?

  • Follow up with your application at UNIS until you have received an acceptance/admission offer.
  • Make sure to notify UiT by email to mobility@uit.no about your acceptance/admission.
  • You will be registered as a student at UiT – this means UiT will issue your transcript of records of all examinations completed at UNIS.
