STE-3607 Satellite Data Processing - 5 ECTS

Type of course

Can be taken as a single subject.

Admission requirements

A relevant undergraduate Bachelor Engineering program with minimum 25 credits mathematics, 5 credits statistics, 7,5 credits physics.

Application code 9371

Course content

This course will give a hands-on approach to processing satellite data. Most of the data will be from remote sensing of the Earth from optical and radar (SAR) satellites. It will introduce state of the art methods to process the data, through for instance Python libraries. It assumes that the students have a basic understanding of satellite data, image processing and programming.

Objectives of the course

Knowledge and understanding:

  • Understands how different types of common satellite sensors like multi and hyperspectral imagers, and synthetic aperture radars collect data.
  • Knows which tools and libraries can be applied on different types of satellite data.
  • can discuss different uses of common remote sensing data.
  • can discuss different methods applied to satellite data processing.

Skills:

  • can implement a satellite processing pipline.
  • can analyse common satellite data products to produce derived properties in them.

General Competence:

  • can identify and analyse satellite data relevant to a given remote sensing objective.
