Islamic legal tradition as cultural competence resource in welfare service delivery

In culturally diverse societies, such as ours, ensuring that welfare services are culturally competent is important. Cultural competence isn't just a nicety or buzzword—it's a necessary skill set for ensuring equitable and effective service delivery for all members of culturally diverse societies. This lecture highlights the importance of utilizing Islamic legal tradition as a skill set and actionable knowledge for effectively serving the needs of users with diverse Muslim cultural backgrounds.

Farhat Taj is associate professor at the Department of Child Welfare and Social Work, University of Tromsø. Her research interests include culture and human rights, Islamic legal tradition, social integration, international social work, ontological security, complexity theory & conflict, terrorism & human rights.
