Welcome to the art exhibition Parallel Organisms

What happens when art students turn their gaze to biology? You can find out by visiting the Biology Building at the Campus in Tromsø
Parallel Organisms is an art exhibition project between the Academy of Fine Arts, the Institute of Arctic and Marine Biology, and the Department of building and Property (BEA).
Through this initiative, the Institute of Arctic and Marine Biology receives tailored art. At the same time, students gain valuable practical experience, and UiT benefits from the results of a meaningful interdisciplinary collaboration.
The exhibition explores creative perspectives on the diversity of nature and the interaction between organisms, both in biological and artistic terms. The students present their individual interpretations of the abstract and organic, inviting the viewer to reflect on our place in nature and how we relate to it.
The exhibition is open from March 2025 to October 2025. You are welcome to explore the artworks and meet the engaged artists. Some of the artworks will resonate with you immediately, while others will take shape and develop over time. What becomes what is not for me to decide—it is up to you.
Welcome!
About the project:
The art project is part of a course on art in public spaces. It started as a pilot project in 2017 and has been conducted several times up to 2023. Previously, the project has involved the School of Business, the Academy of Fine Arts, and BEA.
The project also demonstrates the benefits of cross-disciplinary collaboration and how we can learn from each other.
Public art is more than just accessibility—it contributes to a broader dialogue about the role of culture in society. By integrating art into public spaces, we open new ways of understanding ourselves, each other, and our history.
Students participating in the exhibition:
Victor Karlsson, Anders Knagenhjelm, Morgan Andreassen, Axel Orestav, Leonore Paulsen, Casper Follesø, Elvis Román Lundskog, Katharina Bökenbrink.
