About the course

Research data are an essential part of most research projects. Putting in place good routines for managing research data allows researchers to carry out research more effectively and transparently, to share their work more easily with others, and to satisfy ethical and legal requirements from funders, institutions and government. In this webinar, we take you through the basics of good research data management (RDM):

• Why good RDM matters for researchers, the research community and wider society;
• Your responsibilities as a UiT researcher to manage, share and archive research data;
• UiT's institutional data archive on DataverseNO; and
• Support and further training available to you.

How to archive data in DataverseNO, or Research data: Rights and licences

About the course

All UiT employees and students can archive their research data in the university’s own collection for open research data in DataverseNO. Datasets deposited with DataverseNO are discoverable via major search engines, and the repository is CoreTrustSeal certified, meaning it meets key requirements for sustainability and trustworthiness. In this webinar, we will cover: 

• Features and functionality of DataverseNO; 
• Steps involved in depositing your data, including preparing your dataset, entering metadata and writing a ReadMe file; and 
• The Deposit Guidelines and where to get further help with preparing and depositing your data.

About the course

What reuse rights do you have to research data published by others? Very few – unless there is a licence (terms of use).

Standard open licences make data reuse easier. This webinar explains the usual conditions in open licences, such as the requirement to attribute, the non-commercial condition, the prohibition to build on the dataset, and the obligation to share a derived dataset under the same terms.

The webinar will be useful for those who use data collected by others, and for those who are planning to publish their own datasets.
