Åpent seminar om matsikkerhet i Nord-Norge / Open seminar about food security in Northern Norway

Pandemier, geopolitiske spenninger og klimaendringer er betydelige risikofaktorer for matproduksjon i Nord-Norge. Hva kan gjøres for å legge til rette for at jordbruk og fiskeri kan bli robust nok til å møte endringer og kriser som kan dukke opp?
ENGLISH:
Pandemics, geopolitical tensions, and climate changes are significant risk factors for food production in Northern Norway. What can be done to facilitate agriculture and fisheries becoming robust enough to meet changes and crises that may arise?
NORWEGIAN:
Internasjonalt Seminar er et informasjons- og debattforum i Tromsø, som gjennom foredrag og paneldiskusjoner tar opp nord/sør-problematikk, miljø/klima, fattigdom/utvikling og krig/fred som sentrale tema.
Torsdag 3. oktober kl. 19.00-21.00, på Tromsø bibliotek holdes det et nytt møte i Internasjonalt Seminar.
Tema for dette møtet i Internasjonalt seminar er matsikkerhet.
Tilgang til trygg og næringsrik mat i tilstrekkelige mengder er helt grunnleggende for at vi skal kunne leve trygge og gode liv.
Pandemi og krig, samt klima- og naturkrise har satt matsikkerhet og selvforsyning på den politiske agendaen. I Nord-Norge gjør krevende værforhold, få innbyggere og lange avstander oss spesielt sårbare.
Totalberedskapskommisjonens rapport fra 2023 nevner spesielt at det er viktig å styrke matsikkerheten i nord, og at vi må øke produksjonen av mat basert på norske råvarer.
Jordbruk og fiskeri har tradisjonelt hatt stor betydning for matproduksjon og bosetting i regionen. Samtidig er begge næringene havnet i tøffe tider, blant annet når det kommer til nedgang i fiskebestander og antall gårdsbruk, samt utfordringer som følge av klimaendringer.

Han har ledet og deltatt i flere offentlige utvalg, blant annet om jordvern og arealpolitikk, bioøkonomi og landbruk og klimautfordringer.
Bjørn-Petter Finstad, professor i fiskerihistorie ved Norges fiskerihøgskole - UiT
Forskningstemaer er fiskerinæringens historie i bred forstand. Har også jobbet med norsk polarhistorie.
Laurene Pecuchet, førsteamanuensis ved Norges fiskerihøyskole - UIT
Forsker på fiskestammer og globale endringer på marine økosystemer.

Hun er involvert i ulike forskningsprosjekter innen lokalmatproduksjon, bærekraft, arealforvaltning og matsikkerhet og beredskap i nord.
Internasjonalt seminar har et program med 25-30 åpne møter i året.
Seminaret støttes av Tromsø kommune og koordineres av FN-sambandet Nord og Seksjon for internasjonalt samarbeid (SIS) ved UiT Norges arktiske universitet.
I tillegg støttes seminaret av Tromsøs humanitære organisasjoner, solidaritets- organisasjoner og studentorganisasjoner.

The International Seminar is a forum for political debate in Tromsø, that addresses issues of the North/South divide, environment/climate, poverty/development, and war/peace as central themes through lectures and panel discussions.
On Thursday, 3 October, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, at the Tromsø Library, a new meeting of the International Seminar will be held.
The topic of this meeting will be food security.
Access to safe and nutritious food in sufficient amounts is fundamental for us to be able to live safe and good lives. Pandemic and war, as well as climate and environmental crises, have placed food security and self-sufficiency on the political agenda.
In Northern Norway, challenging weather conditions, few inhabitants, and long distances make us especially vulnerable. The Total Defense Commission's report from 2023 specifically mentions that it is important to strengthen food security in the north, and that we must increase the production of food based on Norwegian raw materials.
Agriculture and fisheries have traditionally been of great importance for food production and settlement in the region. At the same time, both industries have fallen on hard times, including declines in fish stocks and the number of farms, as well as challenges resulting from climate changes.

Arne Bardalen, special advisor at NIBIO
He has led and participated in several public committees, including on land conservation and land policy, bioeconomy, and agriculture and climate challenges.
Bjørn-Petter Finstad, professor of fisheries history at the Norwegian College of Fishery Science- UiT.
His research themes are the history of the fishing industry in a broad sense. He has also worked with Norwegian polar history.
Laurene Pecuchet, associate professor at the Norwegian College of Fishery Science - UiT
She researches fish stocks and global changes in marine ecosystems.

Frøydis Gillund, researcher at NIBIO Tromsø
She is involved in various research projects within local food production, sustainability, land management, and food security and preparedness in the north.
The International Seminar has a program with 25-30 open meetings per year.
The Seminar is supported by the Tromsø municipality and is coordinated by the UN Association North and the Section for International Cooperation (SIS) at UiT The Arctic University of Norway.
In addition, the seminar is supported by Tromsø's humanitarian organizations, solidarity organizations, and student organizations.
