How to archive research data

When you have finished treating your research data, you should upload these to a repository for research data. I many cases, research data can be archived with open access and as such be shared with others.  

There are several good reasons for archiving research data that are not subject to ethical, legal, commercial or security restrictions. Archiving allows other researchers to reproduce our research, it might lead to more citations, and it can open for new collaborations. In addition, the requirement on archiving open research data becomes more and more widespread among scientific journals, organisations, and funders. From September 2017, this requirement also applies to employees at UiT The Arctic University of Norway, see Principles and guidelines for research data management at UiT. 

In this webinar, we discuss the advantages of archiving research data and how we go about selecting a suitable repository. We will also provide a brief introduction to UiT Open Research Data, UiT’s institutional repository for open research data. In addition, we briefly talk about archiving open metadata when the data material itself has restricted access.
