Populærvitenskapelig sammendrag av avhandlingen:
The dissertation is based on studies with different methodological approaches undertaken at the nursing education institution in Finnmark, and sheds light on various aspects of the University's social responsibility. The purpose of the dissertation is to contribute towards increased knowledge of indigenous peoples' perspectives, better understand the challenges of recruitment of nurses to rural regions, shed light on linkages between front-line and specialist health services, as well as improve the understanding of effective educational approaches. Students at the decentralized education programme would not apply for ordinary on-campus education programmes. Flexibility in the organization of the programme was important for students related to the primary sector of the economy. Decentralized educated students remain in the County after graduation. None of the programmes of nursing education in Norway had concrete learning targets on the Sami indigenous culture and language.
