Jubileumsseminar for Tone Skinningsrud: "Comparative Perspectives in Education"

We hereby invite to an open seminar in celebration of professor emerita Tone Skinningsrud, Department of Education.

The aim of the seminar is to highlight comparative perspectives in education research and development, which has been one of Skinningsrud’s main research interests throughout her career. Such perspectives provide insights through comparing policies and processes across national settings. A number of invited guest speakers will in different ways address questions highly relevant for all levels of the educational system, from kindergarten to higher education. Among other things, the importance of comparative perspectives in analyzing and performing teaching in multicultural settings will be addressed.

12.15-13.00: Margaret Archer, University of Warwick: “Understanding Educational Change – The Morphogenetic Approach"

13.15-14-00: David Scott, Institute of Education, King’s College, London University: "Concepts, Learning and Bhaskarian Critical Realism"

14.00 – 14.30: Coffee and mingling break

14.30– 15.15: Birgit Brock-Utne, University of Oslo: “The Worldwide Language Issue in Education”

15.15 – 16.00: Tone Skinningsrud, The Arctic University of Norway: "Conceptualizing educational centralization and decentralization”

16.15 – 17.00: Short presentations from PhD-students:

Terje Bringeland: “PISA: Introduction and Role in Educational Systems”

Daniel Rød: “Teacher’s work experiences in Northern Norway -under the lens of the Morphogenetic Approach” 

Anna-Maria Stenseth: “Critical Realism as an intake to the analyses of decolonising education – students’ perspectives”

Straight after the program there will be a social gathering with tapas in Árdna.

 

The seminar and social gathering are open for everyone.
