I forbindelse med åpningen av Katja Aglerts kunstprosjekt Antifreeze: Rehearsals as Score inviterer vi til samtale mellom kunstneren og kurator Hanne Hammer Stien // Welcome to the opening event of Katja Aglert’s art project Antifreeze: Rehearsals as Score, with an artist talk between Aglert and curator Hanne Hammer Stien.
Høsten 2016 inviterte Polarmuseet Katja Aglert til å lage et kunstprosjekt for museet. På bakgrunn av et omfattende feltarbeid knyttet til museet har Aglert utformet det dynamiske verket Antifreeze: Rehearsals as Score.
Kunstprosjektet består av et 60 dagers pågående videoverk som forandres på daglig basis gjennom utstillingsperioden ved at en ny versjon presenteres hver dag. Det kan ses i Polarmuseets faste utstilling i utstillingsperioden som er identisk med mørketiden i Tromsø, fra 21. november til 21. januar.
Til grunn for Antifreeze: Rehearsals as Score ligger Aglerts interesse for den hverdagslige erfaringen som ofte er uuttalt i det siste århundrets vestlige, imperialistiske, gjerne maskuline og typisk heroiske framstilling av polarhistorien.
Katja Aglert er bosatt i Stockholm. Hun har en transdisiplinær kunstnerisk praksis. Temaer som Aglert undersøker i sine kunstneriske prosjekter er historiefortelling, forholdet mellom idéer om natur og kultur, interseksjonalitet, performativitet og økologiske spørsmål.
Mediene Aglert anvender varierer fra kontekst til kontekst, og er avhengige av det spesifikke prosjektets plassering og undersøkelser hun gjør på stedet.
Aglert har tidligere stått bak utstillingene The breath between the rustle of dead leaves and the shadow of a tale (Stockholm 2016), For a gentle song would not shake us if we had never heard a loud one (Oslo 2016), Winter Event – Antifreeze (Bogotá, Colombia og Santiago, Chile 2015), og Voyage to the Virtual (New York 2015). Hanne Hammer Stien er kurator for Antifreeze: Rehearsals as Score. Hun underviser ved Kunstakademiet i Tromsø og jobber også som frilans kurator og skribent. Stien står bak antologien Vit at jeg elsker deg: Om kunst og sted (2015) og har også nylig stått bak utsmykkingen av Baksalen skole i Hammerfest med et verk av kunstneren Inger Sitter. In autumn 2016, the Polar Museum invited Katja Aglert to do an art project for the museum. Based on comprehensive fieldwork in relation to the museum, Aglert has composed the dynamic work Antifreeze: Rehearsals as Score.
The artwork consists of a 60 days long ongoing video work which changes on a daily basis throughout the entire exhibition period by displaying a new version every day. The work can be seen in the Polar Museum’s permanent exhibition during the exhibition period which is identical to the polar night in Tromsø, from 21 November to 21 January.
The basis for Antifreeze: Rehearsals as Score is Aglert’s concern with the everyday experience which often has remained merely an implicit part of the last century’s western, imperialist, typically masculine and heroic representations of polar history.
Katja Aglert lives in Stockholm. Her artistic practice is transdisciplinary. Topics examined in Aglert’s art projects are storytelling, the relationships between ideas of nature and culture, intersectionality, performativity and ecological questions.
The mediums used by Aglert vary from context to context, and are determined by the location of the specific project and examinations conducted on that location.

Hanne Hammer Stien is curator of Antifreeze: Rehearsals as Score. She works as a lecturer at the Academy of Contemporary Art and Creative Writing in Tromsø and is also a freelance curator and writer. Stien is the editor of the anthology Vit at jeg elsker deg: Om kunst og sted (2015) and has recently curated the relocation of a painting by Inger Sitter to the primary school Baksalen in Hammerfest.
